What one thing persuades you to join a group?  What service do you most want?

The main reason I would join a collecting group is INFORMATION. I want to learn more about what I collect. Another reason is to share pictures - and possibly even share actual inkwells (buy, sell, trade). I think it would be great if we had a spot on this site that would allow the second to happen.

Another reason is just making connections with people who have a similar interest.

Finding information and expanding my knowledge was my key.  Has the Society ever discuss or issued guidelines about sales transactions between members?  Maybe it could be handled the same way members post ADs in the Stained Finger.

Likewise, I look for information on the inkwells I have collected and sources for more details. I enjoy the personal stories of how members came to buy certain inkwells and how they implement repairs if necessary.

I am always amazed at how many inkwells I have that are not listed in any books available - And I have just about all of them about inkwells!

By the way, Fritz, this forum/website is an excellent idea! I appreciate all the effort and time you have put into this venture.

Information. It seems there is not a lot of information out there. Many of mine have no makers name or marks. Also enjoy showing pictures of my collection and seeing others collection. Mine is not fancy. I call my collection the poor mans inkwells.

Information and affirmation. Definitely information since there are so many varieties. Lately, affirmation as well, that is to say as a confessed inkwell junkie going into withdrawal at this stage I occcasionally need to see that others enjoy and collect what I do and that there is in fact a market for the items I've been spending money on for qjuite some time!

I've noticed that particularly the "online" variety of inkwell purveyors tend to disappear. But I was elated by recent trolling expeditions on ebay and others to see that the market for inks is coming back, particularly in the types comprising the majority of my collection: colored cut glass, art glass, silver overlay. Information from the collectors group can take many forms and be very helpful to everyone.

Bravo to you Fitz and everyone involved in the new site. It's off to a rousing start!

I am feeling lost with regard to the web site and SOIC in general. Has there been a newsletter since 2013? Is a meeting planned anytime soon?

Is the SOIC active right now? We would like to pay our annual dues but not sure if the organization is active right now. We have the same question as the above poster.

I have already e-mailed your Society saying if possible I would like to have some identification help on an inkwell I have just found in West Africa .. it is shown on this page: https://www.collectorsweekly.com/stories/242850-antique-inkwell?in=activity

Can anyone help please .. I do not have the funds to join your excellent society just for a little advice. My grateful thanks in advance if any of you can.
